A City Inside Out - Los Angeles
A City Inside Out - Los Angeles is a photographic study examining the city’s connection to nature. By exploring the architecture, urban design, coastline, public spaces, national parks and surrounding landscape, the project demonstrates how we can search for and incorporate elements of nature into our built environment. The global pandemic further proved the importance of open natural spaces for the welfare of our society and if we look in the right places, we can find and appreciate elements of nature, day to day, in any city around the world.
Working with a large format film camera allows William to carefully compose each image of a specific subject. This more traditional form of image making, although more time consuming, allows the photographer to pay particular attention to light and composition. This photographic process, along with wanting to feel a real sense of freedom and exploration off the back of the global pandemic, was an important part of the journey as William captured architectural, landscape and street scenes that observe how contemporary society constructs and inhabits our built and natural environments.
